what is prisma

prisma is an FFT based 3-in-1 plugin. It's a pitch shifter that works even on polyphonic audio sources, a formant shifter, and a pitch quantizer (useful for achieving that iconic color bass sound).

prisma is a phase vocoder. It splits the signal into tiny pieces, called bins, manipulates the frequencies and amplitudes of these bins and then it reassembles them back into an audio signal while trying to preserve phase relations of the original signal.

Pitch Shifter

A clean sounding pitch shifter that works even on polyphonic audio content. Shifts from 1 octave down to 1 octave up, and anywhere in between.

Formant Shifter

Easy to use formant shifter for greater control over the sound. Change the VOICING parameter to fine tune the formant shifter to your liking. Works well on vocals :3

Pitch Quantizer

Snaps the pitches to any scale. Crank up the COLOR slider for that iconic color bass sweetness

Clean Sound

Reduced ringing and improved transient preservation. Note that because it's an FFT based effect, it has a noticeable latency (around 85ms at 48kHz sample rate)

CPU friendly

The algorithms prisma uses are extremely optimized by using SIMD instructions, making it less heavy on the CPU than the alternatives without compromising sound quality

Minimal UI

Cute and easy to navigate interface. Intuitive workflow and simple controls for achieving results quickly. Freely resizeable.

Formant Shifter

  • A formant shift control. By default it is linked to the Pitch control
  • Hold CTRL for more finer control
  • ALT + Click links it back to the Pitch

Pitch Shifter

  • Does exactly what you think it does :3
  • Hold CTRL for more finer control
  • ALT + Click resets it back to zero

Pitch Quantizer

  • Makes everything sound color bassy
  • Values more than 100% introduce additional filters on top
  • ALT + Click resets it back to zero

Low Cut

  • Low cutoff for the pitch quantizer. Frequencies below that won't be affected by it
  • Hold CTRL for finer control
  • ALT + Click resets it back to default

High Cut

  • High cutoff for the pitch quantizer. Frequencies above that won't be affected by it
  • Hold CTRL for finer control
  • ALT + Click resets it back to default

Algorithm Selector

  • Basic: legacy ringy but clean algorithm
  • Crisp: better transient response
  • Harmonic: attempts to preserve harmonic ratios between frequncies

Dry/Wet

  • Just a simple mix knob, useful for some nice doubling effects
  • Hold CTRL for finer control
  • ALT + Click resets it back to 100%

Extra Parameters

  • Click or hold SHIFT to show "extra" parameters.
  • Voicing: determines the precision of the spectral envelope algorithm, affecting the character of the formant shifter
  • Smoothing: controls how much the coloring/pitch snapping is applied. 0% makes the pitch hard snap to scale, making the sound more "autotune-y"

Scale Menu

  • Enable midi mode: make the scale dynamically react to incoming midi
  • Change tuning: for your microtonal needs
  • Choose a scale from pre-made presets

Scale Selector

  • Choose any scale that works well within your project
  • Affects the color of the Pitch Quantizer

Resize

  • Drag this to make the interface however large or small you want

Bypass

  • A simple on/off switch
  • Doesn't click when switching it on or off and doesn't waste CPU power when disabled
  • Also the plugin automatically disables any processing when there's no incoming signal
